Chiropractic Adjustment FAQs

We understand that you may have questions before your first visit. Here are some of the most common inquiries we receive at our office. If your question isn’t listed here, please don't hesitate to reach out!

  • Do You Take Insurance?

We are currently only accepting Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance.  We are waiting on credentialing for Medicare, and we do not currently plan to pursue any other insurance credentialing.  We do also take PI/motor vehicle accident cases and workers' comp on a case-by-case basis.

  • What Type of Chiropractic Do You Do?

We perform both instrument-assisted (activator and impulse adjusters) and traditional manual adjustments.

  • Do You Take X-Rays on All of Your New Patients?

We do not currently do X-rays in the office.  If your condition warrants x-rays, we will refer you to a local healthcare practitioner for appropriate imaging.

  • Do adjustments hurt?

Most patients describe adjustments as relieving or pressure-based. Gentle techniques are available for those who prefer lighter care.

  • Can adjustments help with everyday stiffness?

Yes. Many patients seek chiropractic care to improve daily movement, posture, and comfort, not just for pain.

  • Do you see children?

As a family practice, we see patients of all ages.

  • How Long Has Dr. Monroe Been Practicing?

Dr. Monroe has been practicing full-time since 2015 in Colorado and Florida.

  • Is dry needling the same as acupuncture?

No. Dry needling is based on modern musculoskeletal principles and focuses on muscle trigger points rather than traditional acupuncture pathways.

  • Does dry needling hurt?

Discomfort is typically minimal and short-lived.

  • How many dry needling sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on muscle response and individual goals. Some patients notice improvement after one session, while others benefit from multiple visits.

  • Can dry needling be combined with chiropractic adjustments?

Yes. Dry needling is often used alongside chiropractic care to support muscle relaxation and improved movement.

  • What's Wrong With Me?

Accurately identifying the cause of spinal pain or other discomfort almost always requires a thorough consultation and examination. Individuals should not assume their pain stems from the same problem, for example, their neighbor had, and thus what has helped their neighbor will help them. Just as every individual is unique and different from the next, so too are the health conditions they suffer and the treatments they require.

Chiropractic doctors are highly trained in the diagnosis and treatment of soft tissue injuries and abnormalities common to the spine, extremities and rest of body. Rest assured that if you are suffering from back or neck problems, extremity problems or other health related ailments chiropractic can provide you with the effective professional relief you demand. If your condition is out of the chiropractic scope or would be more appropriately managed by another health care specialist, we will gladly and promptly make the necessary referral.

  • Can Chiropractic Help Me?

Chiropractic has helped millions of people worldwide suffering from all types of problems and not just back and neck ailments. Chiropractic works with the spinal column and it's intimate relationship with the nervous system - the major controller of all bodily functions. By optimizing spinal column structure and biomechanics, irritation and stress are removed and health can once again be achieved.

You may be surprised to learn that research studies have provided scientific evidence showing chiropractic care is not only effective in the treatment of back and neck ailments, but can also provide effective relief with children suffering from ear infections, women suffering from dysmenorrhea (painful menses), and a number of other seemingly "non-spinal" conditions. While it's not prudent to guarantee relief from such conditions or claim to "treat" these conditions, chiropractic has successfully helped millions of individuals with all sorts of health conditions by positively affecting the nervous system.

Of course, doctors of chiropractic are best known for their success in treating back and neck problems. Through the use of chiropractic spinal adjustments and other highly specialized chiropractic techniques, chiropractors have established themselves as the back and neck injury specialists. Many medical experts are now coming to understand the true effectiveness of chiropractic care and are recommending major changes in the way our health care system manages many common spinal problems. According to a recent Ontario Ministry of Health commissioned study on low-back pain,

"A very good case can be made for making chiropractors the gatekeepers for management of low-back pain..."

  • How Long Will It Take?

While treatment lengths vary somewhat from person to person and from condition to condition, there are a few rules of thumb you can follow.

First, newer injuries, if treated appropriately and immediately, tend to respond to fewer visits assuming that major tissue injury has not occurred. Many of these first time injuries can be effectively managed in as little as 3 to 4 visits. Conditions that have been present for greater than 3 months and recurring conditions are generally more stubborn and difficult to manage. Resolution may require 12 visits or more.

The only sure way to determine how long your treatment will take is to schedule a consultation and/or examination.

For those of you who believe in just waiting for the problem to "go away" on it's own - understand that the longer your condition has been around, the more treatments it will eventually require to resolve.

  • What exactly is a chiropractic adjustment?

An adjustment is a highly controlled, gentle force applied to a specific joint that isn't moving properly. This helps restore "neural integrity" and improves your body’s physical function. Dr. Monroe uses specialized techniques, such as the diversified technique, SOT, Activator assisted, impulse assisted, and Thompson Drops, to ensure the adjustment is both safe and effective.

  • Does chiropractic treatment hurt?

Most patients find adjustments to be very relieving. While you might occasionally hear a "popping" sound (which is simply the release of gas bubbles from the joint), the process is generally painless. Because our care is interactive, you are always encouraged to share your comfort levels with Dr. Monroe during your session.

  • How many visits will I need?

Every person’s journey is unique. Some patients seek short-term relief for an acute injury, while others choose regular care to maintain long-term wellness. After your initial examination, Dr. Monroe will provide a Report of Findings that outlines a personalized schedule tailored to your specific goals and health needs.

  • Is chiropractic care safe?

Yes. Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest, drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for back pain, neck pain, and headaches. It emphasizes the body’s inherent power to heal itself without the use of surgery or medication.

  • Can chiropractic help with issues other than back pain?

Absolutely. Because the spine houses the nervous system—the "master controller" of your body—proper alignment can improve overall health. Patients often report benefits like increased energy, better sleep, improved digestion, and enhanced immune function, in addition to relief from extremity pain and headaches.

  • What should I wear to my appointment?

We recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to move easily. While you don’t need special athletic gear, flexible attire makes the physical examination and stretches more comfortable for you.

  • Do I need a referral from a medical doctor?

Generally, no. Chiropractors are primary-contact practitioners, meaning you can schedule an appointment directly. If Dr. Monroe determines that your condition requires care from another specialist, he will notify you and help coordinate that care.
